removable mandibular orthodontics

In removable orthodontics, as the name implies, patients can remove the orthodontic appliance from their mouth because it is mobile and removable. Removable orthodontics can be classified into two groups. The first group is the removable plates that are used to align and arrange the teeth, and the second group is the removable orthodontic appliance that is used to move the jaws. For instance, the first-group dental plates cannot be used for mandibular removable orthodontics, and the second-group plates should be used.

How does removable mandibular orthodontics work?

Removable mandibular orthodontics, which pertains to mandibular abnormalities, solves the mandibular problems. In fact, removable mandibular orthodontic treatment is used to treat class II malocclusion. In this anomaly, in which the patient’s mandible is small and recessed and the maxilla is large, a removable mandibular orthodontic appliance is used to move the mandible towards its normal position.

movable orthodontic appliances are used to move the mandible in class II malocclusions to forward and to correct the deformity. Removable orthodontics helps people with a small mandible and disturbed balance of other parts of their face, particularly the chin and lips, to easily achieve the natural order and beauty of their face

If treated in childhood, class II occlusions can significantly affect the proper development of the jaws. As a result, in adulthood, the person no longer experiences an anomaly and there is no gap between the jaws when closed. Timely treatment can also save the patient from future jaw surgery.

Removable mandibular orthodontics and hygiene

As an advantage of removable mandibular orthodontics, the person can remove it before every meal. Oral and orthodontic hygiene is also done well in this method. These removable plates can be easily washed.

Removable mandibular orthodontics and possible problems at the beginning of treatment

Speaking may be difficult in patients using the removable orthodontic appliance for the first time, but this will resolve completely after a few days. Some patients also experience excessive salivation after installing a removable orthodontic appliance.

Regular use of removable mandibular orthodontics

Patients should not interrupt the treatment. Given the removable nature of the removable mandibular orthodontic appliance, patients should not forget or avoid it for a few days, because the plate may no longer fit in the mandibular region.

At each visit, the orthodontist examines the removable plate and fixes problems and defects, if any. Any changes in the mandible are carefully evaluated and the treatment progress is recorded. Sometimes the orthodontist may use other plates in the course of treatment.

Duration of using a removable mandibular orthodontic appliance

Normally, removable mandibular orthodontic plates should be used most of the day and night to have a good effect on the movement of the jaws. The more severe the mandibular deformity, the more careful you should be in using a removable plate. In fact, the removable plate should only be removed when eating or exercising. Otherwise, the patient should use the plates throughout the day and night.
