In patients that have a misaligned upper jaw, the jaw appearance is affected in a specific way. It’s where the upper jaw (Maxilla bone) is smaller and directed further backward. In fact, the maxilla growth is stopped however, the lower jaw (axilla bone) keeps growing and getting larger.

Compared to “normal” people, people with misaligned upper jaw(from the side view), have their chin e more forward than the “normal” people. Moreover, since the lips seem to be more backward than their normal position, this issue makes their faces look unorganized, and deformed.

On top of that, with the upper jaw being backward, the teeth arrangement is disrupted in these patients’ mouths. This disorder not only has negative impacts on the patients’ faces but also makes them incapable of chewing and swallowing correctly. Even to the point where they can’t speak properly. Thus, leading for to stay that the maxillary retrusion affects the talking as well.

Respiratory disorders, lack of sleep, etc are the other complications of maxillary retrusion.

Maxillary Retrusion

The disorder can have different causes but what we usually see in society is it being inherited, which means that maxillary retrusion has been inherited from parents to the patients. It has been observed in a few cases that the maxilla has damaged by an accident or a stroke. However, these cases are very rare.

Cure Maxillary Retrusion Using Orthodontics

To cure this disorder, orthodontic treatments are necessary to let the maxilla grow to it’s full potential.

Because of the modern upgrades within technology, medical science and orthodontics have developed significantly. It is expected that this issue becomes easily solved by orthodontics. Technically when it comes to orthodontics, people imagine they can only fix their teeth disorder using it! However, by seeing an orthodontist at the right time, you may fix both the maxilla and your teeth without needing an operation.

We can say that orthodontics has even gone beyond its limits in a way that allows us to deal with the maxillary disorder by using it. To cure maxillary retrusion, the orthodontist moves your maxilla bone forward using a moving device and causes some situations in which your maxilla bone grows properly and movie forward. Moreover, the growth of the lower jaw (axilla bone) can be controlled by a chin strap.

Recently, Dr.Jamilian’s orthodontic appliance invention that has been taken out a patent for USPTO and IRIPO, has taken the place of huge extra oral orthodontic appliances. This removable, intraoral, small orthodontic appliance helps the maxilla bone grow and make the patient who has maxillary retrusion needless to do jaw operation.

Proper Age To Cure Maxillary Retrusion

The cure along with dozens of orthodontic treatments, works immensely better at young ages. In short words, you can say that the younger the patients are, the better the results get!

The reason that the treatment for this disorder is recommended to do at young ages is younger ages have undeveloped mandibular bones, which makes it much softer. This makes the orthodontist move the upper jaw forward easily.

It boosts the maxilla’s growth and after moving maxilla bone forward, it comes to teeth. At this level, teeth are organized by fixed orthodontics. Consequently, the older the patient is, the longer the treatment takes, and also the jaw operation probability is higher. However, the younger the patients are, the better the treatment works, and the jaw operation probability is less. The proper age to do orthodontics for misaligned upper jaw is from the ages of 7 to 12.

Prevent Maxillary Retrusion Complications

Curing maxillary retrusion relieves patients from some complications:

  • These patients can breathe easily, as a result, they can rest better.
  • The tongue places in the standard position in the mouth that improves talking
  • It affects not only the chin and facial beauty but also nose beauty.
  • The neck stands in a proper position and this treatment relieves you from the neck ache caused by maxillary retrusion.
