Often, we may face oral health problems due to negligence in oral hygiene. In this article, we will explain and introduce some of the major oral health problems and explain solutions to deal with them.

Gingivitis

Poor oral hygiene causes the formation of plaques around the teeth, increasing the sensitivity of gingival tissue. Bleeding gums when brushing the teeth is an indication of gingivitis, which can be gradually improved through proper oral hygiene.

Yellow Teeth

Overdrinking beverages such as tea, coffee, and soft drinks gradually increases the surface of teeth to turn yellow. If you cannot cut down on such beverages, it is recommended to drink them using a straw to prevent the direct contact of the liquid with your teeth. However, the teeth may lose their brightness over time due to the gradual loss of enamel as we get older. Hence, it is better to regularly brush your teeth to slow down the teeth yellowing process.

Bad Breath

There are a variety of bacteria inside the oral cavity that cause bad breath. The food debris stuck between the teeth provides favorable conditions for the growth of such bacteria. Other factors causing bad breath are the following: dry mouth, mouth breathing, gingival diseases, stomach diseases, and etc. Bad breath can be somewhat reduced by drinking plenty of water, brushing and flossing the teeth, and brushing the tongue.

Periodontal disease

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is more severe than gingivitis. If gingivitis is not taken seriously and remains untreated, it would become a more severe form, called periodontitis. In this case, the gums can pull away from the tooth, bone can be lost, and the teeth may loosen or fall out. You should visit a dentist as soon as possible to treat periodontal disease.

Tooth decay

Tooth decay is damage to a tooth’s surface, enamel, or crown. When we eat a lot of sugars or the like, the bacteria in our mouth make acids that attack the enamel.

Tooth decay may be prevented by following a healthy diet and observing your own oral hygiene. It should be noted that tooth decay is not naturally reversible, and requires visiting a dentist to replace all damaged tissues.
